First Reloadable SmartCard for parking meters, taxis and garages in U.S. History
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania—July 1, 2008—OmPay® in conjunction with the Philadelphia Parking Authority officially started the process of creating the nation’s first smart card based payment option for all city parking meters, garages and taxis.
“The vision is to create a single convenient payment option for all modes of transportation, a convenience never seen before,” said James Kohler, OmPay’s CEO. “Although the timetables are not set yet, we are focused on getting it right, too often have services been launched well before they were ready for the public and have failed do to inadequate planning leading to a poor user experience.”
The new service is planned to build upon the already popular SmartCard program which currently provides a convenient pre-paid parking meter card that can be used in all City of Philadelphia Parking meters.
